DHI colleagues Jeremy and Tina have signed up for a skydive in June, to raise vital funds for DHI. They are encouraging others to face their fears and join them on the dive, or to support them through sponsorship.
Jeremy Palmer set up the skydive because he is passionate about helping others to overcome challenges which he himself has faced in the past and accredits his journey with DHI for changing his life.
“I have completed a few skydives in the past where I raised a substantial amount money for the NICU wards in Bath and Bristol, but now I have decided to change it up a little and Dive for DHI.
DHI were a key part of my early recovery and without their help, support and guidance, I probably wouldn't be here today, so for that I am forever thankful to DHI and their amazing staff, especially Burlington Street detox and dry house.
Without DHI and Burlington Street many people, including myself would be left to fund for themselves in this forever changing world with a life of addiction. DHI really does help turn lives around.
My story has gone full circle from service user, detox, volunteer, peer mentor, apprenticeship, Reach support worker and now a Reach senior support worker.
I am passionate about my job, the clients that I support and working for such an amazing charity such as DHI.”
Tina Little is an Engagement Worker supporting clients in Bath to address problematic drug and alcohol use and get their lives back on track.
“I'm doing the jump because I don't want to. It's taking me so far out of my comfort zone, it would be very easy to ignore it was even happening!
I hate flying in planes because they go so high. I'm definitely an 'If God wanted to me fly, he would have given me wings' girl. But I am asking clients every day to address their fears and step into the unknown. For most it can feel a dark, scary, often lonely place. It’s safer and easier not to attempt it. This relates to me with the jump. 15,000 feet high, trusting in an unknown person to bring me safely down to earth after jumping into nothing but air, does not come naturally to me. As I said before, it would be much better to ignore it. I'm 60 in 2025 so it's about time I challenged my deep fears & did something about it.”
